Follow the answer
back to its source.
A useful article should encourage deeper reading. Here are starting points for checking the references and understanding the collection.
Current Church teaching
- Catechism of the Catholic Church — use paragraph numbers cited in an article to check the original.
- Holy See archive — councils, Church documents and related primary sources.
- Second Vatican Council documents — read conciliar teaching in context.
The existing article collection
The original 1,606 published articles have been retained with their titles, text, dates and URLs. Table-of-contents widgets and WordPress presentation code have been replaced with a native reading interface. This redesign does not mean each historical statement or quotation has received a new scholarly review.
Complete historical book editions
- Baltimore Catechism No. 1 — Third Plenary Council of Baltimore. Source edition catalogued by Project Gutenberg as public domain in the USA. Historical language and teaching context are retained. The downloadable source edition retains the original notices.
- Baltimore Catechism No. 2 — Third Plenary Council of Baltimore. Source edition catalogued by Project Gutenberg as public domain in the USA. Historical language and teaching context are retained. The downloadable source edition retains the original notices.
- The Faith of Our Fathers — James Cardinal Gibbons. Source edition catalogued by Project Gutenberg as public domain in the USA. Historical language and teaching context are retained. The downloadable source edition retains the original notices.
The historical books preserve period language, descriptions of other communities, and older disciplinary rules. Read them as historical works alongside current Church teaching.
